How to Filter and Sort Your Posts by Traffic Source

Written by Jen Lowery
Updated over a week ago

Clariti's traffic source filtering lets you select any traffic source and instantly rank your entire post library by how well that source is performing for each post. You can find your top performers for a channel, uncover posts with untapped potential, and compare how different sources behave across your content — all without leaving your Explore page.

Overview

When you select a traffic source, Clariti automatically:

  • Adds three new columns to your post list: source page views, source % of total traffic, and total views

  • Applies default filters on the left panel for source page views and source percentage of total

  • Makes every column header clickable so you can sort your library by that source's performance

How to Use It

1. Go to your Explore page.

2. Click the traffic source selector near the top of your post list.

3. Choose any source from the list. Clariti will immediately update your columns and apply default filters.

4. Click any column header to sort your library highest to lowest or lowest to highest by that source's performance.

Understanding the Columns

When a source is selected, three columns are available:

Source page views — The number of page views that source sent to each post during your selected date range.

Source % of total — What share of that post's overall traffic comes from this source. Useful for identifying posts that are over- or under-indexed for a specific channel.

Total views — The post's total traffic across all sources. Provides context alongside source-specific data.

Working with Filters

When you select a source, Clariti automatically applies filters for source page views and source percentage of total in the left panel. These are a starting point, not a locked view.

You can:

  • Adjust the filter ranges to narrow down the posts you're looking for

  • Remove the default filters entirely and build your own view

  • Stack on additional Clariti filters (like labels or performance period) to combine with source data

  • Add or remove columns to customize what you see

About the Source List

The source selector shows your top 10 traffic sources based on the past 12 months of data. This list stays consistent as you change date ranges, so it loads quickly and gives you a reliable reference for your most important traffic drivers no matter what time period you're analyzing.

Ways to Put This to Work

Find your top performers for any source

Select a source and sort by source views descending. The posts at the top are driving the most traffic from that channel — good candidates to double down on with more content or internal links.

Find untapped opportunities

Sort by source % of total ascending. Posts near the top perform well overall but are getting almost nothing from that source, which often signals an opportunity for channel-specific optimization (updating for Pinterest, adding to an email series, etc.).

See where your email traffic lands

Select your email provider as a source and sort by views to see exactly which posts your newsletter is sending readers to and whether those posts are pulling their weight.

Compare behavior across sources

Switch between sources to see which types of content dominate on Google versus social versus direct. Useful context for planning what to create next.

Tip: Try sorting by source percentage ascending for any source. Posts near the top have strong overall traffic but almost no visits from that channel — often your best bets for a targeted optimization push.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I only see 10 sources in the selector?

The list is limited to your top 10 sources from the past 12 months to keep load times fast and give you a consistent reference point. If a source you're looking for isn't listed, it may not be in your top 10 by traffic volume over that period.

Will the source list change if I change my date range?

No. The source list is always based on the past 12 months and stays consistent regardless of the date range you're analyzing. This ensures stable loading and a reliable reference for your top traffic drivers.

Can I use source filters alongside other Clariti filters?

Yes. You can stack source filters with any other filters in Clariti — labels, performance period, publish date, and more. The view is fully yours to shape.
