When you delete a post in WordPress, Clariti usually removes it within minutes. If a deleted post is still showing in Clariti, this guide explains how removal works and what to check.
How Clariti Removes Deleted Posts
Clariti has two ways of noticing that a post is gone:
Right away, through the plugin. When you delete a post, the Clariti WordPress plugin tells Clariti, and Clariti checks with your site and removes it.
Every night, as a backup. Around 2 AM in your site's time zone, Clariti compares the list of published posts and pages on your site with the list in Clariti, and removes anything that is no longer published. This nightly check only runs while your plugin is connected.
Before removing anything, Clariti confirms it with your site. It removes a post when your site's REST API says the post no longer exists (404 Not Found or 410 Gone) or is no longer public. That means moving a post to the WordPress trash, or switching it back to a draft or private, is enough. You do not need to empty the trash.
When a post is removed, Clariti also takes it out of any projects it was in.
What to Check If a Deleted Post Is Still There
1. Give It Until the Next Morning
If the plugin missed the change, the nightly check will catch it. Check again after 2 AM in your site's time zone.
2. Refresh Clariti in Your Browser
Clariti keeps a copy of your post list in your browser so it loads fast. In Explore, click the ... menu at the top right and choose Reload All Items to refresh it.
3. Make Sure the Plugin Is Connected
Go to Settings and check that the WordPress card says Connected. If it says Not Connected, neither the instant update nor the nightly check can run. See Troubleshooting the Clariti Plugin Connection.
4. Confirm WordPress Says the Post Is Gone
Open this address in a private or incognito window, using your own domain and the post's ID:
https://yoursite.com/wp-json/wp/v2/posts/12345
For a page, use /wp-json/wp/v2/pages/ instead. You can find the ID in Explore by adding the Content Id column. If you see the post's content, your site is still sharing it publicly, so Clariti will keep it. If you see an error like "rest_post_invalid_id" or a "not found" message, WordPress has removed it and Clariti will too.
5. Check for a Firewall or Security Plugin
If a firewall, security plugin, or Cloudflare blocks Clariti, Clariti cannot confirm the post is gone. Allow Clariti's IP address, 35.192.123.62. See How to Set Up Cloudflare to Work with Clariti if you use Cloudflare.
Frequently Asked Questions
I deleted a lot of posts at once. Will Clariti catch them all?
The nightly check handles up to 100 changes a night, and it skips your site if the numbers in WordPress and Clariti are very far apart. If you removed hundreds of posts at once, email us and we will clean up your list.
I use Rewrite & Republish in Yoast Duplicate Post. Why did a copy show up?
That feature creates a temporary copy of your post while you edit. The copy can appear in Clariti until WordPress deletes it and Clariti's next check runs.
Does Sync Content remove a deleted post?
No. Sync Content refreshes a post that still exists. Removal happens through the plugin and the nightly check.
A deleted post is still there after all of this. What now?
Email us at [email protected] with the address of at least one post that should be gone, and tell us how you deleted it (in the WordPress editor, in bulk, or with another plugin). We will take a closer look.
