The Clariti WordPress plugin connects your site to Clariti. Clariti reads your posts and pages through the public WordPress REST API, and the plugin lets Clariti know the moment you publish, update, or delete something so your list stays current.
Most people install the plugin during signup, in the Verify Site Ownership step. Use this article if you need to install it again, reconnect it, or set up a new API key.
Before You Start
You need to be able to log in to your WordPress dashboard as an administrator.
You need to be the site owner in Clariti. Team members see only part of the API key and cannot copy it.
Step 1: Install the Plugin in WordPress
1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
2. Go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
3. Search for Clariti.
4. Click Install Now on the Clariti plugin, then click Activate.
Prefer to Upload the Plugin Yourself?
You can also download the plugin from wordpress.org/plugins/clariti and upload it.
1. Download the plugin. Leave the file zipped. If your computer unzips it automatically, right-click the folder and choose Compress to make a new zip file.
2. In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin and click Upload Plugin.
3. Choose the zip file and click Install Now.
4. Click Activate Plugin.
Step 2: Copy Your API Key from Clariti
1. In Clariti, click Settings at the top right.
2. Find the WordPress card.
3. Next to API Key, click the copy button. You will see Copied when it is on your clipboard.
Step 3: Add the API Key to the Plugin
1. In WordPress, go to Plugins > Installed Plugins, find Clariti, and click Settings.
2. Paste your key into the API Key field.
3. Click Save Changes.
Step 4: Check the Connection in Clariti
Go back to Settings in Clariti. The WordPress card should show a Connected badge. To double-check, click the ... menu on the card and choose Test Connection. After a moment you should see "Connected successfully via Clariti WordPress plugin" followed by your plugin version.
If you see an error instead, Troubleshooting the Clariti Plugin Connection explains what each message means and how to fix it.
Regenerating Your API Key
Regenerate your key if you reinstall the plugin, if your connection will not come back, or if you think someone else has your key.
1. In Clariti, go to Settings.
2. On the WordPress card, click the ... menu. Under Danger zone, choose Regenerate API Key.
3. Confirm in the pop-up. Your old key stops working right away, and your site stays disconnected until you add the new key to the plugin.
4. Copy the new key and paste it into the Clariti plugin settings in WordPress, as in Step 3.
5. Back in Clariti, use Test Connection to confirm.
Only the site owner can regenerate the key.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the plugin slow down my site?
No. The plugin is very lightweight. Clariti pulls your content through the public WordPress REST API, and the plugin just sends Clariti a short note when a post changes so Clariti knows what to update.
Can I use one API key on more than one site?
No. Each site in Clariti has its own API key, and each key works on only one site.
How do I add the plugin to another site?
First, the site needs to be added to your Clariti account. Email us at [email protected] and we will set it up. The new site gets its own API key on its own Settings page.
Do I need to download the plugin again for every update?
No. Updates show up in your WordPress Plugins area like any other plugin from the WordPress plugin directory. Keep the plugin up to date. If your version gets too old, Clariti shows a banner saying the plugin is out-of-date.
What happens if I deactivate or delete the plugin?
Clariti can no longer keep your posts in sync, and you will see a banner in Clariti saying the plugin is not connected. To fix it, reinstall the plugin, regenerate your API key in Clariti, and add the new key to the plugin.
Why can't I copy the API key or see the menu on the WordPress card?
Only the site owner can see the full key and use Test Connection and Regenerate API Key. Team members see a partial key. Ask the site owner to help, or contact us.
